What is EB-2 NIW? The EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) Green Card is a U.S. immigration option for highly skilled professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs who want to live and work permanently in the United States. Unlike most employment-based visas, the NIW does not require employer sponsorship or a job offer. Applicants can self-petition by proving that their work has significant merit and is in the national interest of the United States. This makes the EB-2 NIW especially attractive for professionals from Bangladesh with strong academic backgrounds, years of work experience, or impactful contributions in healthcare, engineering, business, or scientific research. Who Qualifies for EB-2 NIW? Step 1: General EB-2 Eligibility Test You must meet one of the following:- Hold an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD), or
- Have a Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of progressive experience, or
- Demonstrate exceptional ability in your field.
- Your work has substantial merit and national importance.
- You are well-positioned to advance your work.
- Granting your petition would benefit the national interest of the U.S.
- No Employer Sponsorship Required – Self-petition and apply independently.
- No Job Offer Needed – Even without a current U.S. job, you can apply.
- No PERM Labor Certification – Skip the time-consuming labor market test.
- Family Green Cards – Spouse and unmarried children under 21 can also immigrate.
- Higher Approval Rates – Easier requirements compared to EB-1A.
- I-140 Petition – File with USCIS to establish your qualifications.
- I-485 Adjustment of Status – Apply for your green card once your priority date is current.
- Concurrent or Separate Filing – Strategy depends on your case.
